Coumadin Clinic Our anticoagulation management program at Rainy Lake Medical Center, Clinic Campus, offers patients an innovative and noninvasive way of adjusting their Warfarin, or Coumadin, medication. Coumadin is an oral medication used to reduce blood clotting, and is the primary long-term medication used to address a variety of health concerns, including heart disease, stroke and artificial heart valves. This new procedure uses an FDA-approved “finger-stick” method of blood analysis, which eliminates the need for uncomfortable blood drawing and provides accurate results in two minutes. In the past, adjusting this medication was a cumbersome process that caused delays of as much as two weeks, requiring close monitoring to ensure correct dosage and minimize the risk of bleeding due to excessive blood thinning. Now with this safer, more efficient and cost-effective method, you can have your lab work completed and your medication adjusted in one easy visit. During each visit to our Anticoagulation Clinic, you meet one-on-one with a registered nurse specially trained in anticoagulation therapy who uses a state-of-the-art computer program to monitor your medication.
