Rainy Lake Medical Center offers a Family-Centered Model of Care, which means you stay in a private room throughout labor, delivery, and recovery (except when a Cesarean Section is required). RLMC staff also promotes and encourages Mother-Baby Care, which means your baby stays in your hospital room with you. This time spent together fosters early bonding and offers the opportunity for education by trained staff.
Our new, fully equipped labor and delivery suite has a private bath and jetted tub, and a sleeper sofa to accommodate a support person. Our private maternity rooms are equipped with comfortable furniture in a home-like setting and can quickly transform into a delivery room.
RLMC obstetrical care nurses are certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and have received specialized training in the care of mothers and babies. A personal care nurse will be with you throughout labor and postpartum to provide you and your baby the best care possible. While in the hospital, new moms enjoy nutritious meals from our Choice Menu. Our Family Pantry is available for juices and snacks for mom or her support person.
Rainy Lake Medical Center, in partnership with Koochiching County Health Department, offers free childbirth education classes that consist of three, two-hour sessions designed to prepare the expectant mom and her coach for a healthy and safe birth experience. Understanding the stages of labor and knowing what to expect throughout the process can ease fears, and learning relaxation techniques can make the experience more comfortable.
